A portrait has the power to change. One of the most important recipients of that change can be the subject of the portrait themselves. To be able to take someone out of their own perspective and, if but for a moment, see themselves or their family through a different set of eyes. Eyes that can see their inherent beauty, a moment of joy, or a love shared amongst family.
A mirror only shows us what we already think we see, but a photograph can take us out of ourselves and show us a whole new perspective.
